Do I have a valid reason to negotiate a severance pay ?

After 8 years of service my job got transferred to a sister company where I worked for another 10 years before i got laid off. The company offered me a severance pay for 10 years, not for 18 years.
Do I have a valid reason to negotiate a severance pay?
