Do I have a leg to stand on?

I am 47 years old and was forced out of my job. I had performed well for 9 years and a new manager came in and stated that my performance was sub par and demoted me. I was then subject to 4 months of nit picking and trying to find fault. They then presented a severance package to me.

Maybe, Maybe Not

Whether you have a cause of action will depend on whether you can prove that the employer's decision was the result of an unlawful motive. Few terminations are unlawful. But, those that happen because of a manager's prejudice against women or people over the age of 40 do violate the law. There are other possibilities, but I cannot tell enough from your summary. Regardless of who you see, you should get legal advice before signing a severance package that would cause you to give up all your rights.
