Demotion after merger and offer letter?

I am a remote employee working in my home office as a manager for a company in another state. My old company was recently purchased by this company. I was offered my same manager position via an offer letter in April which even included a raise. Now, 3 months later, I am being told that the company is "not comfortable" with an "outsider" in this position while it was not offered internally first, and that now the job is going to be posted and I will have to reapply. I have not been given written notification, nor have I been fired or demoted; once the posting is out, I am supposed to reapply, but there is a chance someone else will get the job. Do I have any legal rights here?
