Can termination letter with offer to pay wages be rescinded and replaced?

I was terminated for at-will reason and given an executed letter stating I would be paid through the end of the month and receive severance if I signed release agreement. Three days later, employer rescinded at-will termination and offer to pay wages and severance and replaced with letter stating termination for cause with no offer to pay wages or severance. Would this be breach of contract claim.
