Can I sue if I am not getting paid the same amount of money stated on my offer letter?

I have been with my employer for 3 years. My first position paid $45k and a year later I got a promotion. When I signed the offer letter it stated I would be paid $50k, however, a year and a half later after looking over my documents I found out I've only been getting paid $46k. Unfortunately I lost the offer letter and as per the Human Resources Dept. they cannot find it on their end or the recruiter's files (who no longer works here). What can I do? Am I at the losing end because I don't have the offer letter?
