Can I be fired for the opinions of others?

I was fired last month. I was told that the employees felt that I was an unapproachable manager and unfriendly. The employees comments were put in a comment box with no names on them. Therefore I couldn't defend myself. I don't know if the employees were ones that I had written up or denied a request of theirs or etc. I don't know if there were even comments made for sure because I didn't see them. I follow the rules and very strict. I am the only manager that doesn't have "favorites". So, if the employees wanted to get rid of the "mean" manager than why not. The employer is appealing my unemployment. I have several employees that will testify that I am approachable and always willing to help. What can I do at the hearing?
