Am i entitled to get paid on a referral loan that closed when i was an employee

I am a licensed loan officer currently. However, I was working for another company in NJ up until 12/24/2018 which is when I resigned. The owner will claim that he fired me since he heard at the Xmas party that same day, that I was gave a referral from one of my personal friends to my brother at another bank. I actually did do this since my 4 yr. old daughter was going in for heart surgery and I was going to be out for a week or so. I honestly did not trust the employer or their shady processors. On December 18th 2017, a little over a year prior to this occurrence, i had been hired and signed an employment contract. The day i signed that contract (12/18/2017) the owner of the company told me that the contract is valid for 1 year which would have been 12/18/2018. That very same day I had requested a copy of that contract from the owner and he said he would put it on my desk which they never did. Over this 1 year span, I had requested a copy of the contract that I signed on 4 separate occasions by email and still have every request in a folder. Needless to say, I have never been provided a copy of it. This same company gave me a $40,000 sign on bonus. One of the most important items in the contract was that I would have to pay the $40K back if i was fired or if i resigned before the date of 12/12/2018.. So I waited until this date had surpassed and then I resigned. Problem is that I am not sure what else it stated in the contract. I was able to get a copy of my buddy's contract who signed on a few days later and I am almost certain it was the same as the one I signed. ( I can provide you with a copy of that if you wish) The reason I am writing this long letter is because I would like to find out if I should have been paid commissions on 2 other personal referrals that i left behind to close and that I helped along since both clients were looking to go elsewhere so i convinced them to stay instead of starting over somewhere else. The one loan closed while i was still working at this company, literally closed on 12/23/2018 and the other closed after i resigned but only by 4 days. Please help me, Thank you
