A detective told my employer that I would soon be charged with felony larceny.

A detective told my employer that I would soon be charged with felony larceny charges and also told them, my house was being search at that time. This was back in Sept. 2015, I was working with a union and was given papers showing what the detective told our security supervisor. The paperwork showed the detectives name and what was said to the security supervisor. I still have not been charged with any crime and it has been over 2 years now. Can I sue the police department because of this? Since the detective told my supervisor that and she had it in writing I could not fight and had to resign because the detectives word was held way above mine and my own union said it is a fight we can not win because of what the detective told the security person.
