2 weeks notice mandatory?

Is it wrong to give only a weeks notice? I have to start a new job in a week or so so I am unable to give two weeks notice. I have not signed a contract.

Sometimes it works for employees

New York is an employment at will state. Usually, this doctrine seems to work only for the employer, but sometimes it works for the employee. Under the employment at will doctrine, an employee can leave a job at any time for any reason, or no reason at all. No notice is required.
