is it lawfull to require a hourly mgr to punch out while on duty to avoid paying overtime

received a write up stating that i should punch out while on duty to save company unauterized overtime as a writen warning i would be facing a week suspension if it occured again ! as the only manager on duty that seems that would be illegal to do on the companys part ?
