i was fired 13 days before my fmla was to start is this legal

I was fired due to too many sick days in 2010. I had stayed in close contact with management. I was diagnosed with several critical things and was truly sick in 2010 just wanting to know if its leagl for them to have fired me right before my fmla was to start? I have all my fmla paperwork already and all my yearly evaluatjions were great. I'm at a loss. Please advice..thanks
