disability and fml

My employer offers a disability leave of 8 weeks (unpaid). Can I take this leave as disability and then my 12 week fam. med. leave for a total of 20 weeks? Or are they one and the same?

FMLA and private leaves run concurrently

Unless your employer's policy provides otherwise, FMLA and employer unpaid leaves will run at the same time. Therefore, you will probably only have 12 weeks of FMLA time available.
