a non compete in utah, did not sign the contract but accepted a payment, does this make it valid

Hello Everyone I had a contract with my company for 6 months, then on renewing my contract the company added a one year non compete,i did not sign this contract, but took a payment from the company Before signing with my new company. Now the old company sent me a letter of intent because taking the payment means the contract is now valid. My old company will still take me back I signed my new contract 4 days ago meaning i cant void the non compete. The company is also located in Utah. My new company has a corporation in Newyork and the united kingdom is there official adress. WHAT can I do in dire need of help !
