Wife's contractor is breaking contract with the hospital she works at, is non-compete agreement still valid?

My wife was hired by a contractor in a hospital 3 months ago and she just recently found out that the contractor is breaking their contract with the hospital early because the Respiratory Therapists there are "too expensive" and they are laying off the whole department. The hospital is bringing in a new contractor that wants to hire the old RT's back but they have a non-compete agreement for 6 months with the old contractor. Due to the contractor breaking contract with the hospital, is the non-compete still valid?
