What is the best advice for handling non-compete clause in my context below?

I have not signed a contract. I will be required to work under supervision for approximately 1.5-2 years as an independent marriage/family therapist contractor. A non-compete agreement stipulates, if I leave I agree to not start a practice w/n a 10 mile radius of any office (which in effect removes Charlotte metro area), for a period of at least 2 years, except by written permission.

Once fully licensed I want to provide services from a nonprofit position for those who would not have them otherwise. I also have a network/marketing list of about 75 contacts that I don't want to lose to the company.
