What is a potential employee entitled to regarding relocation expense?

I signed an offer letter that included a $20,000 relocation bonus (20k after tax, so grossed up the necessary amount) for moving from NYC to SF. A week before I was supposed to start I was told I no longer had the job but had already spent money for the move and signed a lease in SF. Am I entitled to the 20k or any of the expenses already paid or will have to pay (have not paid for movers but I technically have to move with no apt in NYC and a lease signed in SF)? Only documentation is a signed offer letter by myself and the company
