Rights in Ohio to your Personnel File after leaving.

Myself and others worked for a horrible person. She cannot keep any employees, she defames, pays people incorrectly, etc... Anyways, we are having a hard time finding jobs and we are getting phone calls from people telling us she is defaming us. We asked her company attorney to mail us a copy of our Personnel File. He sent one of my former coworkers a letter stating it is the "company's property". I had learned that we have every right in Ohio to a copy of our personnel file. Is that true and where can I learn more about this. Please email me if you can and let me know. Thank you so much.

Personnel File/Defamation

No, you do not have a right to your personnel file in Ohio. It is, however, illegal for your former employer to make false damaging statements about your work performance/abilities.
