Previous employer is appealing my benefits after they was effective

I was found eligible for unemployment and have been receiving my weekly check, I got a letter in the mail saying i was a party to an appeal by my previous employer, It stated in the letter that they feel i was fired for misconduct because facts about a incident with a toy air ball hitting a co-worker was not truthful and they want to apeal my benefits and have them terminated. do i need a lawyer for this one or go to the online apeal alone? Originally they said i was fired for using language but now they are trying to say it was over this incident.
