Potential Employer requesting high school diploma

To Whom It May Concern:
I am a registered nurse and unemployed at this time. I had two interviews for a dialysis company 15 minutes from my house. The second manager is requesting a copy of my high school diploma which I feel is age discrimination. It is irrelevant for the position, because I have a college diploma and a bachelor's degree. Could you please advise on this matter? Thank you.
