Non-compete sales related

I think I signed a non-compete with my employer. I work in sales and have held (3) different territory positions North East Chicago, Northern IN and Southwest MI, and 11 key accounts in MI,IL, NY, PA, WI, ME, MN. The key account positon was forced on me along with a 25% pay cut. I have been recently told that I will recieve another job offer with this employer (Which will include a pay cut) or a severance package.

I would like to take a job in IL with a competitor. It hasn't been two years since I vacated that territory. Do you think my former employer will try to sue me?

Non-compete

You are asking us to speculate as to what option an employer will choose. Some employers would sue and some would not. It depends on so many factors, including the decision-maker's personality. If you want another job and you are being offered a severance/demotion, I would try to negotiate being released from any non-compete in exchange for a resignation.
