Non-Compete based on california law

I signed a two year non-compete contract with my former employer. The company was focused in the elctronic manufacturing industry and marketed products through reps and distributor. I was terminated after nine months and am now being offered a position by one of my past competitors.

In our industry we all chase the same accounts and are aware of each others products and capabilities. Each manufacturer has the others products to evaluate and look at it. they are no secrets.

My non-compete is writen and based on the laws of the state of california (which does recongnize non-competes, with a few exceptions.

I have been unemployed for eight months and am looking to take this job. Where do I stand?
