Need job, but former employment contract keeping me from being employed with another company.

I had gone to a company sponsored truck driving school, and signed an employment contract stating that I had to work for the company for eight months and they would pay for the cost of the school. This company required us to drive with a co-driver as a team. Complete strangers having to share the driving, one drives while the other sleeps type of deal. I had complained to my dispatcher that my co-driver and I weren't getting along, he wouldn't drive long enough or far enough and we were always running behind schedule. We couldn't stop long enough to shower. I am a female, and need to shower! The dispatcher didn't care after I had complained several times about this co-driver. Dispatch said get the load there on time. My co-driver got sick and we got stuck at a rest stop in the middle of Wyoming, no-where during a snow storm. DOT closed the roads, and I couldn't get co-driver to a hospital. Co-driver getting violent with me and threatening me. Tells me he's gonna slit my throat in my sleep. Then later says he's gonna splatter my brains on the windshield when he shoots me. I got off the truck and was able to take most of my stuff with me. I called the dispatcher to tell them what happened. and basically they said I abandoned the truck and quit. Which isn't true. Because I signed the contract for 8 months of service, I am not able to get another job driving. I've had other companies say they would hire me, but I have to pay my contract off with the previous company first. I can't pay it because I can't find another job. Are there any legal avenues I can persue to solve this problem? Please help! Thank you very much!!
