My wife and I worked for the same company. I was due to receive a $15,000 dollar bonus and she was due to receive a $20,000 bonus. When the employer paid out the bonus he gave me a total of $35,000 and gave my wife $0. This made it look like a made around

My wife was told she was going to get a $20,000 bonus and I was told I was going to get a $15,000 bonus. I received a $35,000 bonus and my wife received $0. Since I received everything it was taxed at a higher right which took almost half the money. Is this aloud and what about the bonus my wife was entitled to?
