My current contract expired as of business yesterday, 9/6/13. Do I report my next scheduled workday?

I am an employed physician at a local hospital. My current 3-yr contract expired as of the end of business yesterday. Do I show up to work as scheduled my next scheduled day--Tue, 9/10? I have dragged my feet a bit, but the new CEO hasn't been real approachable either. I had an appt to meet with him 9/4 but it was cancelled because Joint Commission showed up on that day. I understood he would be contacting me to reschedule but did not as of 9/6. I feel an obligation to my patients though do not wish to proceed as the effective doormat of the facility and community as I have been much of the past 3 years. There are a number of issues with the current/now-expired contract that were not executed by the hospital and I will not simply re-sign it. I am not a "business person," per se...obviously, but I am now a bit wiser re contracting, albeit minimally, than I was when I signed in July 2010. Should I give notice that I am willing to remain an "at-will" employee (under the terms of the now-expired contract until a specific date, eg Oct 1, 2013), as a "good faith" action, so as to allow additional time to negotiate a new agreement?
