My 1099 contractor quit without a two week notice breaking his contract do I have to pay him his final check

My 1099 contractor signed a contract stating that it is required to give a two week notice prior to leaving however he quit without a two week notice and now I'm in a bind to find a replacement and can't make any monies until I do so? My question is do I have to pay him his final check?
