Is it legal to record an employee not involved in company business

I was recently confronted by my manager and supervisor where I was informed that they got me on tape talking. My manager insisted on getting the name of the person I was talking too. I informed her that I had no idea what she was talking about since I speak to many individuals during the course of my day. She then played a tape recording that was not business related and in fact I was having a regular routine conversation with one of my co workers. I informed them that I was not on a call and asked how did they record me I was not given an answer.

I have been researching online and noticed that 12 states have all consent laws. Since I conduct business and field calls from some of these states and I never signed any letter of consent in regards to my phone calls being recorded does this mean laws are being broken in regards to the conversations my employer records.
