Is it legal in Indiana to "trade shifts" with co-workers.

Hypothetically, we work 12 hr swing shifts. Could i come in and work a co-workers shift, he would be "on the clock" and get paid, then he would pay me back by working a day for me, where i get paid. This creates no overtime. But question is is it legal to be working onsite but not clocked in?
