intrusion

First, not all states respect what we call the privacy torts. The jurisdiction you are in may or may not respect a suit based on intrusion on seclusion. Next, if the employer paid for the hotel expenses then it would at least have an arguable right to verify the information the employee submitted on his/her expense report. Inquiring beyond that kind of verification purpose sounds like an improper purpose; however, more facts would be useful here.
