If I am laid-off by my employer and am hired by another company...can I accept a client that has recently fired my previous company through no solicitation acts by me?

I was recently laid-off by my employer. During my tenure I worked closely with some clients. Upon my departure from the company the performance level the client had enjoyed suffered significantly to levels that they determined to be unacceptable. Two clients independently severed their relationships with my former employer. Both sought me out on my personal cell phone and asked if I could take on their accounts. I need to provide them an answer and do not want to violate a non-compete/non-solicitation agreement.
