I was hired by a company to do Helpdesk Support at a startup company. The position was contract to hire. At the end of my contract, the company decided not to hire me, but decided they needed someone to write reports, procedures, etc, not support hardware and software. I had built a good relationship with my co-workers and always went above and beyond for the company when it came to my job. Three days after my contract was terminated and an Operations Analyst was hired an all employee meeting was held. The HR person told the entire group of employees that I had been let go, introduced the new person as my replacement, and made the statement that "they had done more in 3 days than I had in the month that she had been there". Are two jobs were not anything alike. She had only been there a few weeks and didn't have any idea of what my job entailed or what I did on a daily basis. Instead she made a public statement that insinuated that I had been fired because I wasn't doing my job. Is this defamation of character?
