I was in a car accident and I've worked my company for 11 years today my boss called and told me that he will demoting me because I've been off work for less than a month on Dr.'s orders. Is there not type of act that protects my job from being demoted

I was in a car accident on February 18 hit from behind I've been off work every since by my doctor. Today my boss called to tell me and I've worked for this company for 11 years that I was getting demoted because I was off healing from the car accident. Also wants me to go around and tell people that I resigned from my position because of the car accident which is farthest from the truth. I have not even been off work for one month and I got the moated should I get an attorney ?

The Family Medical Leave Act might apply if the employer has at least 50 employees and you worked at least 1,250 hours in the past 12 months.
