Non-Compete Question

I have a non compete for 1 year and within 100 miles from my primary office location. I cannot solicit the compan’s clients or customers and I cannot BECOME employed by a competitor or an individual competitor within the 100 miles or 1 year. I interpret this to mean I may contact clients or customers outside the 100 mike area. Can I contact clients that I had prior to joining the company? What if a client or company not a competitor hires me to work for them? Within the restricted zone or not?
