I gave resignation to my employer, but later withdrew my resignation. Now my employer wants to make me resign by that date, even though I do not want to anymore. Do they have the legal right to make me resign even though I retracted my notice?

I thought I had another job lined up, so I have my notice at my current employer. I found out a few days later that the job was just canceled due to budget cuts, so I retracted my notice from my current employer. Now my employer wants to honor the original notice date even though I retracted it. Are they legally allowed to do this?
Please help! Thanks.
