I am employed as a security guard and was replaced. I would like to know if it is legal

I am a security card with a current guard card. Am currently employed with a local security agency (though am not collecting any wages). Was assigned a particular shopping center with a contract. My employer let the contract lapse a couple of months ago, last week I showed up for work and the owner of the shopping center hired another local agency. I was replaced with no notice and have yet to be reassigned to another post. Is that legal?
