I am being laid off from my job after 15 years of employment. they are giving us a severance packge they have also said they are looking to make a position for me but i do not want to take the position in another department can they not pay the severance

i do not want to take another position with company i am being laid off from can they not pay me the severance pay?

Severance packages are not required by law, so they are a benefit offered by an employer under a contract theory. For this reason, an attorney would have to look at the terms of the severance package to know the answer to your question.
