Hired by company contracted by new company. Still get severance from previous company?

The company (A) I work for was bought out. Employees were told they would receive a severance payment for each year they had been employed (by the way there was no written agreement, just verbal). The new company (B) contracts with another company (C) to do the work I am currently doing with (A). I was just offered a job last week by C. Payroll for C employees is separate from B, our benefits are different...etc, so I feel like it's as if I was let go by A and found a new job with C. Is A still required to pay the severance they offered? Thanks
