Fired after an ATV collision

I was recently released from an 8-month employment as a scheduler in the OR at a local hospital. I am a single mother of 2 boys, ages 7 and 9 years. I had previously been written up for missing too many days at work due to family illnesses, etc. I received a written warning and was told that if it continued, I may be suspended. I was in an ATV accident on 05/30/2009 and was life flighted to Columbia, MO. I notified my employer on 05/31/2009 as to the events. I was hospitalized with a sprained ankle, sprained shoulder, and a concussion. I kept my employer informed as to the progress of my situation and was released to return to work on 06/08/2009. In the meantime, I received a letter dated 06/03/2009 stating that my employment was ended effective 06/03/2009 due to the extended need for time off and also due to other dependability issues. I feel this is totally inappropriate due this being a "freak accident." I feel I kept my employer up-to-date as to my situation and progress only to be "slapped in the face" with my release from employment. I am a single mom and not only have I had to miss 1 week of work but now I have to search for other employment with the medical issues that I still am dealing with... I am still on crutches with a sprained ankle and sprained shoulder. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
