FMLA issues

My wife was on FMLA leave and was set to come back. She called before her leave was over and was told her job was no longer available. The only thing she could come back to was something in a different field where it would take months of training to get started. she was then told they are extending her fmla leave another 4 weeks to see if her position will come back available. we sent an email where we followed up on it before the 4 weeks was over to the same response only this time they terminated her due to no work. is this against FMLA?
