Employer didn't follow U.I. Code § 1089 in California

I work in California and my freelance contract (I'm not a independent contractor as I have a W2) was not extended into Q3 nor was it offered. I asked multiple times for a change in employee relationship form, to which the HR coordinator said she would get that right away for me. Since they also made a huge error on my final paycheck I took the time to walk around the offices to say bye, while waiting for both payroll and HR to call me on my personal phone so I could review paperwork. Instead payroll finally brings me my check 2 hours later (3pm-5pm) and states that HR has gone home for the day. Can I legally do anything for not having any paperwork and not being told if I was dismissed or laid off as both words have been used with me during my previous HR meetings about my end date being 6/30-end of Q2? Help please.
