Does a separate medical condition for the same qualifying person effect the type of FLMA used?

My spouse was diagnosed with LGMD. After providing my employer with the Certification of Serious Health Condition that was requested,I was approved for December 2017 - December 2018 for FLMA(Intermittent) due to his inability to drive to medical appointments. I’ve had family support(when available) which has allowed me to only use 12 hours. My husband had an outpatient surgery approximately ago. I informed my supervisor and HR manager of the days that I would be out which is 2 weeks to care for him following his surgery and the removal of his stitches. I was informed by the HR manager that the certification that was provided would cover this absence. Today the HR manager informed me that I have to have this doctor complete another certification because it’s a separate medical issue.
