Defamation in a public place

Someone at my work a training manager in front of a co worker in implied that i had a drug problem then openly at a restaurant in front of the same employee asked me how my heroin addiction was going. I've never even used heroin.. although I had a dependency for pain medication because of surgeries and am now on a medication for it.. But He publicly humiliated me and because I live in a small town if anyone at that restaurant heard that I was addicted to Heroin that might affect my employment not to mention my reputation.
