Can employer make me do job if it's been eliminated?

Ive been a Pricing Coordinator at Lowes for the past 4 yrs. I was told my job would be eliminated at the end of the month. I was to transfer to the overnight stocking/receiving team. I’ve been working my butt off and doing OT (without a second lunch) this week to make sure all my price changes were completed. Today was my last day but when I asked my manager about my new schedule, he said that they still have to find my replacement. He said to come in and keep doing my regular tasks for 2-3 wks until they find someone. SMH
My store manager told me they really needed someone in the tools dept. I declined the position because of the hours. My duties were going to be handled by another dept. Why am I not going to my new position immediately? I believe my manager is retaliating because they wanted me to take work in tools.
