Can a parent take leave for an adult child who is having ankle surgery?

Adult child lives at home with parents, as well as adult child's minor child. Adult child broke ankle in 3 places and is facing surgery. he will need transportation to and from (doctor appointments, surgery) - he cannot drive at all. Parent also assists with meals, laundry because adult child cannot bear any weight on ankle or while on crutches. Our employee, parent of the adult child, eligible for FMLA? Thank you.
