Can a employer cancel health and prescription benifits if a employee is layed off for two months due to lack of work, with the employer knowing emplyee will return in 2 months?

I work for a company who employees me as a Security Officer for a school district. We are layed off in June when school ends and return in September. My question is, can my employer cancel all my benefits, health insurance, prescriptions, and wage works, even tho I am coming back to work?
