Can I lose medical coverage while awaiting surgery?
I live in TN, but my employer's headquarters is in IN. I began working on 11/12/09, and benefits started 3/1/10. I discovered on 3/22 that I have a tumor pressing on my spinal cord. An April 5th date was set for surgery. I received a letter on 3/27 stating I would be terminated and would be losing health coverage on 4/2/10. I have applied for STD. Will my termination affect STD? Can my employer terminate coverage even though I'm in the middle of awaiting surgery?
