Can I get unemployment?

I currently hold a back office position working 35 hr as week earning salary of $30,000 a year with 10days PTO. My employer currently sold the company. The back office will no longer be needed. He said the only thing they can offer me is a retail position. That would lower my pay to $10 an hour, he is not giving me much information, but says I would start from day one like a new employee, when I have worked for about 5 years. If I chose not to get this offer can I collect unemployment, since my position is back office not retail? They said they would have the company until May 31 wanted to move me to sales a week prior , I'm guessing to say I worked in that area which I don't. What can I do ? There is a lot more to all this I would need to go into further detail. Even if the offer is not stated on paper? The owners do not want me to speak to the new owners over what my position would be, or consist of (pay, hours etc.) They told me I would have to wait until the company was sold on the 31st.

Possibly not. Since you are turning down employment, you are causing the loss of income. Unless the two positions are so very different and it is placing you in a position that you cannot hold, your benefits could be denied. The employer, however, would have to advise unemployment of the offer. If it does not and you simply state that you were terminated/laid off, you would get your benefits. Hope this helps.
