As an exempt employee in California can I be forced to stay at the facility after I've completed my

I am a licensed therapist I work at an addiction treatment facility. My responsibilities are to have a set number of individual sessions with assigned clients and to lead a set number of therapy groups and then to write notes documenting these meetings. When I have completed these tasks can my employer require that I stay at the facility till 5:30 forcing me to work over 8 hours. I feel that if I get the job done early, because I'm efficent at writing notes I should be able to depart.
