What makes a Contract official, & how do vague statements that have to be interpreted stand legally?

Hello, I have a question about a contract that I signed with a hair salon. Our hair salon contract states that we are a "Mckay" salon meaning that we sell McKay make-up, but I have never signed anything saying that I could not sell my own make-up at work or outside of work, and have not signed any conflict of interest documentation. Can she legally force me to not sale the products I like, I pay to work there (self-employed). Also, I would like to know what makes contracts official and legal?
