Terminated while on FMLA

I was terminated from work while on FMLA. I submitted the paperwork that the doctor filled out. They said it was not filled out correctly and needed the doctor to redo it. They said they mailed the form back to me on May 13, 2010. They did not mail until May 18th from the postmark on the envelope from the employer. They said they wanted the paper work back by May 20th, 2010. I did not receive it until May 21st from the postal service. I contacted the Dept of Labor, which they have it in their hands for over 8 weeks now. And they are telling me that they cannot help me that the employer gave me ample time to get the form filled out again from the doctor, even after I did not recieve it in time from the employer. Also the employer told the dept of labor that they do not want to hire me back. Is this discrimination? The employer has also denied my unemployment benefits and cobra.

I don't have money to contact a lawyer, what can I do.
