Should I sue my former employer for unpaid commission? Should this be a class action?

I worked 6 years for a merchant serives business. I was paid a "signing bonus" which was an advance of the first year's commission. The commission was viewed as earned after 12 months of processing.
This month the commission was about $3,000 less than I expected.
A clerk at the payroll office sent me a spreadsheet that showed the sales volume that I was paid on. The numbers after 12 full months of processing were lower than they were after 9 months of processing.
Someone lowered the numbers.
This is a national company. Do they have a system to lower the commissions due former employees? If so, how would you start a class action suit?
